Heroin is highly addictive; you can build up a tolerance to it which means you need to take higher doses to get the same effects of well-being and end up having to take it just to feel normal.  People can become dependent on Heroin in quite a short period of time.

A number of heroin users inject the drug rather than smoking it which comes with its own risks. Injecting any drug can lead to infections and diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C if not using clean sterile equipment or if you share equipment.  Partly because of some of the things that Heroin is cut with, for example brick dust, there is a risk of damage to veins or of abscesses and blood clots forming.

Social:
Heroin used to be synonymous with being used alone, however it is now used far more socially and is often used at parties. It can be heated and the fumes inhaled known as chasing the dragon or it can be injected.
