Earlier this year Aquarius put an offer in on a famous derelict pub in Digbeth in Birmingham – The Adam and Eve.
We are in the process of transforming it into a multi use space and functional venue comprising of;
- A range of services and support groups;
- A working café/restaurant
- 2 conference rooms available for external organisations to hire.
It will be a social enterprise with any profit made being reinvested into the project or other suitable Aquarius projects.
In the summer staff and volunteers voted on a name, we have decided to call our new project EVOLVE.
Evolve will contain a functioning café which will provide young people under the age of 24 with the opportunity to gain access into work and education.
The placement staff members will be trained in all areas of service industry including, waiting, serving, cooking, stock control and till work. Alongside their employment, the young people will complete an apprenticeship in catering in partnership with UCB.
We will work with partner agencies such as; Spring Housing and Lenches Trust to help us with different aspects of the project including helping us to identify young people who are suitable for the placements.
We want Evolve to be a calm environment and welcoming to all, we also hope that when people order their coffee and cake they know that the profits will be reinvested to help other people overcome the harms caused by alcohol, drugs and gambling.
