We will support anyone under 18, living in Birmingham with a substance misuse problem or offer support to those affected by parental substance misuse. Many of the children and young people we work with also have other vulnerabilities; school exclusions, truancy, teenage pregnancy, child sexual exploitation, in care or leaving care, homelessness, mental, emotional and physical health issues, offending, lack of education attainment and unemployment. We know that some children and young people suffer neglect because of parental or guardian substance misuse

In all cases we work with young people/children as individuals, treating them with respect and care, taking time to understand them and agree together how we can help.

We provide:

Partnership work

Youth Offending Team (YOT)
We have an Aquarius Practitioner based in each of the 5 YOT’s across Birmingham who works with young people wherever there are substances use concerns. The offending does not have to be related to substance use.

We have a designated Barnardo’s Child Sexual Exploitation worker within our team to work with young people where there are dual substance use and child sexual exploitation concerns.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
We have a specialist CAMHS service as young people who are misusing substances are at particular risk of developing complex mental health problems. The team consists of a Consultant Psychiatrist, specialising in Substance Misuse, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Assistant Psychologist. The team provide an assessment and dual diagnosis service for children and young people with complex health and associated mental health problems, and are responsible for the opiate substitute prescribing service in the young people’s service at Aquarius. They also have the provision of other specialist prescribing services within CAMHS for under 18 years that only a Consultant Specialist can provide for this age range.

A base for young people in East Birmingham who also provide the link for young people between Birmingham and Solihull services
