Drinkwise Derby featured on BBC East Midlands

We’ve been in the news again! Ruth Spencer, Area Manager here at Aquarius featured on a BBC East Midlands news piece on behalf of our partnership service in Derby – Drinkwise Derby.

Drinkwise Derby is being launched by Derby Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (DDARS), a partnership service providing support and treatment to help people with their drug or alcohol use. This is a service delivered in partnership by Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Phoenix Futures and ourselves at Aquarius. Drinkwise Derby will help people with a lower level need, to prevent the escalation of alcohol use.

The BBC East Midlands news piece was all about the increase in alcohol consumption since the pandemic, the impact it’s had on people, and the various support avenues available – including Drinkwise Derby.

Ruth said:

“We know that people have increased their drinking, we have seen more people coming in for support. Especially people who didn’t have a problem drinking before, but during the pandemic have started to drink more at home – therefore when they’ve started to try and get back to normal they need a little bit more help than they thought.”

You can watch the news piece until 7pm tonight here.
