With temperatures set to rise well over 30 degrees this week the nation finds themselves in the usual confused state brought on by a heatwave and such tropical conditions. This usually means we do everything we can to keep cool.
- Fan sales increase
- Sun dresses come out
- Air conditioning is revived from the previous summer
The consumption of alcohol goes up
Alcohol consumption decreases the body’s production of anti-diuretic hormone, which the body needs to absorb water. So the more you drink, the less anti-diuretic hormone you will have and your body will lose more water than normal as you will urinate more and especially if you’re sick as well. So while sitting in a beer garden under a parasol watching the world go by seems the best idea in this weather, reaching for a pint isn’t.
To keep cool and well hydrated water really is the best thing you can drink, try alternating your drinks, or have a pint of water as well as the alcohol and stay cool.
