A new Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) service has been launched in Birmingham and Solihull, supported by Birmingham Children’s Trust and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
Aquarius has been involved in the FDAC programme for over six years and we are proud to be a part of this new Birmingham & Solihull service. It was launched on 25 February, with the first hearings set to take place in March.
This new specialist court will be overseen by judges who will have the authority to work with parents to find solutions to drug and alcohol misuse, mental health problems and domestic abuse. A team of specialists work within the FDAC service, consisting of social workers, mental health workers, children & family workers, psychologists, and psychiatrist.
Aquarius are providing a full time Senior Practitioner who will be the drug and alcohol specialist in the team.
The aim of FDAC is to solve problems for families, working to create a safer home life – it is designed to reduce the number of children being taken into care. The impact of FDAC is apparent; with the support of FDAC more parents reduce or control their substance misuse and more children can return or remain within their parents’ care. This overall improves the outcome for children’s lives.
As always at Aquarius, it is important to us that we support the whole family, and we are really excited about the positive impact the FDAC service will have on the lives of children and families across Birmingham and Solihull.
