Every day, we speak to people who feel anxious about bills, repayments, or managing their money and we know that gambling can sometimes make these financial worries more difficult to manage. What may start as a way of making money, escaping stress or an attempt to “win back” losses can quickly lead to greater financial strain and emotional distress.

We want everyone to know they’re not alone. Talking about money can be the first step toward getting the right support. That’s why we’re proud to support PayPlan in their involvement with Talk Money Week a national campaign led by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) that encourages people to open-up about their finances and seek help early.

How You Can Get Involved

Starting a conversation can make a big difference. Chances are others around you share similar worries about budgeting, debt or gambling-related money issues. It’s estimated that for every individual experiencing a gambling disorder, between 6 -10 others including family members and friends are negatively affected as a result. By talking openly you can share advice, find encouragement, and take the first step toward regaining control.

The 2025 theme, “Start the Conversation” focuses on helping people feel more confident discussing finances with friends, family, colleagues, or professionals. For practical help, try BudgetSmart, a free online tool that helps you find savings, make the most of your income, and boost your financial wellbeing.
